Why No Code Tools are Great for Your Next MVP

42% of startups failed because the products they built is not wanted by the market. (CB Insights). In addition, most early-stage founders take months to release their first version of the product to its beta customers. At the end of the day, too many founders could be wasting their time and money to build the things that are not wanted. This trend has got to stop!
I want to share with people there is a quicker and more economic way to get your first version of the product created, which is building your MVP using no code tools! I want to use my segment to share with early-stage founders, especially the ones who do not have a technical background, what could a no-code tool create for a MVP and resources to learn more about using no code tools. At the end of the segment, I hope the participants could feel empowered that they know the tools that could help them validate their product idea quickly and more economically.

By focusing on the wellbeing of our staff it allowed us to take the change journey that we have, ensuring Healthy Harold has an even greater impact on the next generation of young Australians.

Research and Commercialisation are Interchangeable

My research has led to two start-up companies iFix Medical and Health61. Commercialisation was thought to be the “dark side” of research; and there are two main limiting factors preventing researchers to commercialise their findings: publication and fear of losing “genuine” research. However, what I found is that having start-up company and experience is really inspiring. It also help you to attract more funding and to spend more time on research. I would like to share my experience and to encourage more researchers and research students to consider the start-up option.

Moonshot: It's Not About Getting to the Moon

When we think of space tech we tend to think of roaring rockets that cost a lot of money, bleeping satellites with unknown purpose, and utopic science fiction about a future among the stars that was promised but never came to be.
Troy McCann of Moonshot wants us to know that space is not a single location that includes the whole universe beyond Earth’s atmosphere. Space is everywhere, but an even more useful definition is that space is symbolic of frontier locations within our universe that give us new perspectives and opportunities to solve our greatest challenges. From the deepest depths of our oceans to infrastructure orbiting our planet, and beyond to celestial bodies from the moon to Mars and even resource-rich comets.
Space is not only about these locations. Moonshot is not about getting to the moon. It’s about driving humanity towards a better future, faster.
Join Troy McCann in conversation with Joan Westenberg and take some time to reconnect with the universe and reflect back on yourself and your purpose within it.

Ethical Tech

The internet can be a scary place - a place where people can feel alone, isolated and disconnected. But there's a reason for this. Artificial intelligence (AI) is fundamentally changing the way people interact with each other online. It is controlling what we see and how we see it. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. AI has the power to improve our lives and help us connect. But if emerging technologies are employed without a strong sense of ethics, the future of the internet looks bleak. We aim to change that. Our goal is to build tools that subvert the dominant paradigm and create technologies that use artificial intelligence to obscure data and empower people. Welcome to the world of ethical tech!

Through illuminate Education Australia challenges, we've stretched and inspired +4800 students in 2019 and +12000 since our founding to not only become the confident, creative and capable people they have the potential to be, but also putting young people in the centre of decision making and shaping the direction of their region. We've covered many sectors in our time - tourism to tech, education to employability, social enterprise to sustainability - all with the focus on empowering young people to be problem solvers and entrepreneurs for today.
In the session, Adam Mostogl (Founder of illuminate Education Australia, Finalist for 2015 Young Australian of the Year) will share about the power of putting young people in the centre of solving problems in the region, how to engage and support them and unlock the most precious resource in our communities - passionate young people!

Bootstrapping Governance

First it’s market testing, then proof of concept, then you actually have to launch it, find people willing to work for you, pay them, find investors, find accountants … the list goes on. At the bottom of the list (if at all), is doing it all within a framework of good corporate governance. We get it, it’s not a priority right now. However, there will come a time where it’s at the top of your list.
Whether it’s your first capital raise or a dispute between shareholders, having good corporate governance will get you through to the other side. We know, setting up a governance framework sounds expensive and time-consuming, when money and time are the two things startups do not have!
In this seminar, we will show you how to tidy up your past practices and give you some tips going forward that won’t break the bank or take you days to implement.
Giselle Finnane and Fee Lal are corporate lawyers at Marque Lawyers and podcast hosts of Subtitles On. Join them in this seminar to learn some tips and tricks of how to implement and maintain a good corporate governance framework.

Building a startup ecosystem that is not not racist but actively anti-racist

What needs to be changed? Who gets a say in that process? Who do you listen to? How do we do it in a way that is respectful, inclusive and meaningful? What do we do when we get it wrong?
These are questions that come up time and time again as the startup ecosystem leans in to try to resolve a problem that has deepened over hundreds of years. What is it going to take to get any closer to answering those questions?

Reclaiming our shared narrative: How personal profiling is dividing us

Do you feel like the world has become increasingly chaotic, divisive and unstable? If you’ve spent any time online recently, it’d be hard to disagree. Social media is an amazing tool for connecting people and improving collaboration. However, over time these tools have evolved to pursue profit by exploiting our vulnerabilities and hijacking our attention. Each of us are recommended emotionally charged content which nudges us further towards one extreme or another. Can we trust that our digital footprint is being used in our best interest? The continued dissemination of information directly impacts us, from our closest relationships to democracy at large.
Loneliness, anxiety, depression, addiction and a general sense of distrust has been on the rise since we've been using these platforms. There are no clear cut answers to how we can build a positive relationship between technology and humanity, however, we can start the conversation.
Join us to discuss potential strategies and explore how we can reclaim our shared narrative within Australia and society at large.

The Great Australian Reset - Shaping a Clean Energy Revolution

From solar panels to student protestors, what more is needed to stop climate procrastination? As states shut down and societal efforts unite to fight our immediate crisis, it can be easy to forget: climate change isn’t cancelled.

Australia is entering a window of opportunity. Moderated by Darcy Small, Global Shaper and co-founder of Kua, this panel discussion will bring together expertise in clean energy technology, climate activism and business leadership. Eytan Lenko chairs Beyond Zero Emissions. Building from findings in the recent ‘Million Jobs Plan’, we’ll uncover why now is the time to catalyse a climate-smart recovery. Jess Miller governs as a City of Sydney Councillor and Kirstin Hunter champions holistically ethical investment as the CEO of Future Super. Reflecting on grassroots and corporate experiences, we’ll learn how to galvanise action amid a pandemic and answer the question: how do I participate?

This event is the final of a three-part “The Great Australian Reset’ webinar series. Run by the Global Shapers Sydney, a community of the World Economic Forum, the series convenes multi-disciplinary leaders in Australia to discuss and take action on how to enable better outcomes in the areas of Climate Change and the Environment, Diversity and Inclusion, and Employment and Education.

Responsible Business – Taking Imperfect Action, Not Perfect Inaction

Now, more than ever, businesses are facing pressure to act more ethically and responsibly. This has increased exponentially in 2020, with unprecedented challenges being met with intense scrutiny of a company’s response. From bushfires and pandemics to social injustice, business is not only affected by these situations, they are also expected to respond appropriately to an ever-widening range of issues.

Whilst we regularly see businesses making off the cuff statements, jumping on social media bandwagons and preparing well-meaning intentions, there still seems to be much less action. When the news cycle moves on and the response box is ticked, what is the real impact? What will change? What tangible and measurable action has been taken to move the needle forward?

Citizens, customers, investors and employees are all watching more closely than ever before to what a company actually does, not just what it says in the heat of the moment. To effectively face the type of crises that 2020 has been delivering, it is imperative that brands respond with action, not spin. This session will focus on examples and strategies to support businesses in taking meaningful, imperfect action over making perfect statements. Perfect inaction will not fly in 2020 and beyond.

Pitch My State

Over the past two weeks we've connected, we've shared knowledge and we've celebrated what a great place Australia is to start and grow a startup. But whose place is truly "the best"?
To answer that question we've gathered together a group of people each of whom are passionate about their state, and what it has to offer for entrepreneurs. In the spirit of friendly competition they'll have 5 minutes each to tell us all that's great about their state. The real winners in this debate will be entrepreneurial Australians everywhere, as we acknowledge the depth of opportunity available everywhere to imagine and bring to life exciting, valuable, and successful ventures.
Be sure to tune into what promises to be a memorable closing segment of Spark Festival 2020, hosted by stand-up comedian Sam McCool.
